Load Cells

Load Cell is a type of transducer that converts force into measurable electrical output. However, they don’t work without being paired up with external sensors such as strain gauges. Strain Gauges are thin elastic materials made up of stainless steel and are fixed inside the load cell. The force exerted on the load cell tends to deform the strain gauge. This deformation causes a change in resistance which is then converted to the readable unit to determine the weight of an object.

High Capacity Centre Hole Load Cell

This is a high capacity centre hole resistive strain gauge type load cell. It is used to determine the load in rock bolts, tieback anchors, etc through a centre hole. It comprises of sixteen 350 Ohm resistance strain gauges, wired to form a 1400 Ohm bridge, inside a stainless steel cylinder of high steel strength, in a load cell with a capacity above 5000 kN. The 3500/185 and 5000/202 load cells are welded using the electron beam welding technique.

Hydraulic Centre Hole Load Cell

This is a vibrating wire type centre hole load cell used to determine the load in rock bolts, tieback anchors, etc. It is filled with fluid with a vibrating wire pressure sensor attached to it, to convert the load into a frequency output.

A solid load cell for stress measurement in tunnel supports and struts is also available on request.

High Capacity Solid Load Cell

This is a resistive strain gauge type load cell. It is designed to measure large compressive load or axial forces. The load cell is used extensively in pile testing. This load cell is similar to the ‘Sister Bar Strain Gauge’ unit. It has great resistance to extraneous forces and is protected against dust, moisture, and adverse environmental conditions. This increases the fatigue life, permits a less stringent mounting alignment and reduces the possibility of reading error.

This compression load cell is a heavy duty precision load cell. Specially designed to meet the increasing demand in load measurement with a high degree of accuracy and reliability, the load cell is ideally suited for measurement of compressive load or forces in struts application. The load cell is available in capacities ranging from 1000 kN to 3500 KN.

This compression load cells have great resistance to extraneous forces. This increases the fatigue life, permits less stringent mounting alignment and reduces the possibility of reading error. The load cell is protected against dust, moisture and adverse environmental conditions.

Load cell readings can be measured by using any standard digital read-out unit suitable for resistive strain gage type sensors. The data can also be automatically collected at desired frequency, stored and transmitted to remote server by a suitable datalogger using multiplexer/busmux or SDI-12 digital interface logger.

VW Centre Hole Load Cell

This is a vibrating wire type centre hole load cell used to determine load in rock bolts, tieback anchors etc. It comprises of a cylinder of high strength martensitic stainless steel with three vibrating wire strain gauges mounted at 120 degrees to each other to minimise the effect of uneven and eccentric loading. To determine the load, the average of 3 readings is taken. A load cell with 6 vibrating wire strain gages and 9 core cables is available on request. A solid load cell for stress measurement in tunnel supports and struts is also available on request.

Centre Hole Load Cell

This is a resistive strain gauge type load cell. It is used to determine load in rock bolts, tieback anchors etc through a centre hole. It is based on Wheatstone bridge principle and has eight 350 Ohm resistance strain gauges, wired to form a 700 Ohm bridge, inside a cylinder of high steel strength. These eight gauges are mounted around the circumference at 45 degrees to each other.

The load cell is resistive to ingress of water and corrosive environment by sealing hermetically using the electron beam welding technique.
